BSO – The Wizard Of Oz (1939) Harold Arlen y E.Y. "Yip" Harburg
El Mago de Oz de 1939 es una película musical de fantasía producida por Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Cuenta con las actuaciones de Judy Garland, Frank Morgan, Ray Bolger, Jack Haley, Bert Lahr, Billie Burke y Margaret Hamilton. En la actualidad es considerada una película de culto, a pesar de su antigüedad y de su intento creativo inicial de ser una fábula cinematográfica para niños.
La cinta esta basada en la novela para niños El Maravilloso Mago de Oz de L. Frank Baum, en la cual una joven estadounidense es arrastrada por un tornado en Kansas y dejada en una fantástica tierra donde habitan brujas buenas y malas, un espantapájaros que habla, un león cobarde, un hombre de lata y otros seres extraordinarios.
Música y letras fueron escritas por Harold Arlen y E.Y. «Yip» Harburg, quienes ganaron premios Oscar por mejor música original y mejor canción por «Over the Rainbow».
TRIVIA
* Cuando la película es vista simultáneamente con la música del disco The Dark Side of the Moon de Pink Floyd, numerosas imágenes del filme parecen estar sincronizadas con la música y las letras. Este fenómeno es llamado The Dark Side of the Rainbow por los fanáticos.
* Existe un extraño rumor que dice que uno de los munchkins (habitantes de Oz) se ahorcó en una de las escenografías de bosque durante una de las escenas de la película. Al inspeccionar de forma detenida la escena se puede comprobar que en realidad se trata del movimiento de una grulla viva que desde lejos parece ser un cuerpo colgando desde un arbol, lo más posible es que la escena entre dentro del territorio de incitación subliminal, debido a su parecido con la acción anteriormente descrita.
* El cabello de Judy Garland que en muchas escenas lo tiene largo y otra mas corto, en la escena donde mas se nota es en la que se encuentra con el espantapajaro. Fijense cuando llega lo tiene muy largo y luego de bajarlo del palo lo tiene corto
