PEGGY KING – Peggy King
Originally a private studio recording made by Peggy especially for her mother, and was not intended for public distribution. But, what a welcome addition it is to the extremely slim Peggy King catalog. Peggy tackled some well-known tunes, from «Happiness is Just a Thing Called Joe» to the gospel-ish «Swing Low Sweet Chariot». But, the track that wins it all for this disc is her take on «These Foolish Things», which has subtle longing within every note. Sonically this is good, though minor surface noise can be heard, it gives this the added nuance of the era in which it was recorded (which was the 50’s). Hard to find, but extremely worth searching out.
