Renowned Russian singer’s full English language jazz debut/return.

Few singers in Russian popular music have changed genres and styles as
dramatically as Larisa Dolina. This desire or ability to metamorphose was
clearly stamped in her repertoire as early as 1982, especially after the
Seventh Moscow Jazz Festival. With the celebrated musician Anatolii Kroll,
Dolina developed a bold, brassy program entitled A Jazz Vocal Anthology:
«All the way from old spirituals to soul and disco.» This early, hesitant
inclusion of soul and disco hinted at estrada’s anachronistic merging of
traditions, but Dolina rigorously put that heritage to daring, if not
aggressive use, inspired by the work of Ray Charles, Ella Fitzgerald, and
Dinah Washington. She improvised on a plucky, generic scale.
